KOSTECKI CLAIMS THE $50,000 MEGA REWARDS

Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki has taken a $50,000 cash prize thanks to Mega Rewards with victory in the opening Repco Supercars Championship race of the bp Adelaide Grand Final.

 

Kostecki charged from fourth on the grid in wet conditions, overcoming a qualifying crash to claim victory.

 

The race was red-flagged with 10 laps to go following a Turn 8 crash for Tickford Racing’s Thomas Randle, handing Kostecki the win from Walkinshaw Andretti United pair Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood.

 

Mostert was the leader of the four grand finalists, finishing in second place and reducing Broc Feeney’s championship lead from 20 points to just 13 with two 250-kilometre races still to come at the bp Adelaide Grand Final.

 

Grand finalists Kai Allen and Will Brown were fifth and ninth respectively, keeping the points race close heading into the final two races.

 

NASCAR star Austin Cindric finished 23^rd in his Supercars debut, surviving the treacherous conditions.

 

The 78-lap Saturday race gets underway at 3:20pm local time.

 

HOMETOWN HEROES WIN IN SUPPORT CATEGORIES

 

Adelaide’s own Todd Hazelwood claimed his second Trico Trans Am title with victory in the opening race at the bp Adelaide Grand Final. Hazelwood took a comfortable victory from Blake Tracey and Lachlan Evennett, securing back-to-back titles in his TFH Racing Mustang.

 

Fellow South Australian Max Vidau won the first race of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup, gambling on wet tyres as the rain arrived to climb from 12th to first in the worsening conditions. Earlier in the day, Kody Garland claimed victory in the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars.

 

STAKES RISE ON SATURDAY

 

In addition to the 250-kilometre Supercars race, Saturday at the bp Adelaide Grand Final will feature further demonstrations from the Red Bull F1 cars, support category races, the BOOST MOBILE AusX Grand Final and the Saturday night concert headlined by Lenny Kravitz.

 

Due to wet weather, the NAPA Speedway did not going ahead on Friday night. Further updates to come.
