KOSTECKI AND HAZELWOOD SNATCH BATHURST GLORY AS FINALS FIELD IS SET

bp Adelaide Grand Final

Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood have won the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 in a stunning last-lap decider, with the Supercars Finals Series field now locked in for the run to the bp Adelaide Grand Final.
The Dick Johnson Racing Ford Mustang inherited the lead on the final lap when the Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro of Anton De Pasquale and Lee Holdsworth ran out of fuel on Mountain Straight, with Kostecki sweeping past to claim victory after 161 laps in front of the biggest Mount Panorama crowd in eight years.
Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Will Brown and Scott Pye finished second, just 1.2 seconds behind, while Zach Bates and Aaron Seton completed the podium for Matt Stone Racing after Bates started the race from pole position.
De Pasquale and Holdsworth limped home in 17th, a cruel result after being in control at the front so late in the race with the team’s decision to gamble on fuel proving costly.
It was a dramatic day for championship leader Matt Payne, who recovered to fifth with co-driver Will Davison despite a five-second penalty for contact with David Reynolds and a drive-through for a pitstop infringement. Brakes were a major talking point all weekend, with Grove Racing teammates Kai Allen and Tim Slade suffering with brake troubles across the race to finish 21st.
Ryan Wood and Jack Le Brocq claimed the last two places in the finals. Le Brocq secured 10th in the standings with a strong run to fourth alongside Harri Jones, while Wood held on despite a tough race that saw his Walkinshaw TWG Racing Toyota finish well down after repairs for accident damage. Walkinshaw teammate Chaz Mostert crashed late in the race, causing the only safety car intervention in the race and the decisive fun to the flag.
Andre Heimgartner, James Golding and Thomas Randle all finished inside the top 10 at Mount Panorama but missed out on a finals berth.
Wood and Le Brocq join Payne, Broc Feeney, Allen, Kostecki, Cameron Waters, De Pasquale, Brown and Mostert in the 10-driver Finals Series, which features six Fords, two Chevrolets and two Toyotas.
Kostecki’s win, his eighth of the season, lifts him to third in the championship, while Brown’s podium moves him up to fourth, with Payne heading into the finals 205 points clear of Feeney.
The Supercars Finals Series now kicks off at the Gold Coast, before the championship is decided at the 2026 bp Adelaide Grand Final on November 26 – 29.
