The newly rebranded bp Adelaide Grand Final has confirmed the return of the popular School’s Day Program, to take place on the first day of the event, Thursday 27 November.

Launched today with a special visit at Playford Primary from Kai Allen, a Mount Gambier native in contention for the championship, the program offers students the opportunity to experience the on and off-track action up close.

Playford Primary was selected for their ongoing participation in the event, with over 300 students attending this year.

Primary school students from across Adelaide are given hands-on experiences across the bp Adelaide Grand Final and extra classroom resources for registered schools.

In 2024, a record breaking 3,280 students experienced the event, for some lifting back the curtain on the motorsport and STEM world for the first time.

The announcement comes as the new bp Adelaide Grand Final mascots ‘Petey’ and ‘Wheeliam’ were officially unveiled. Petey dreams of being a Supercars driver and is trying everything possible to get a seat on the grid, from go-kart racing, writing letters to team bosses, and even trying to sneak into the Supercars team photo.

Wheeliam is Petey’s partner-in-zoom – a turbo-charged troublemaker with a heart full of horsepower. With a cheeky little smile, Wheeliam’s always scheming up ways to make life faster, funnier, and just a little bit sideways.

The School’s Day continues to be endorsed by Hon Blair Boyer Minister for Education, Skills and Training: “The bp Adelaide Grand Final is an iconic event for the state and having thousands of students head to the track for the Schools Day is a great way to showcase STEM and engineering careers in a practical way.

Students will be able to explore motorsport first-hand and hopefully it will ignite the imagination of some of our young people about the types of careers they might want to pursue.”

bp Adelaide Grand Final Chief Executive Mark Warren said: “We are proud to continue our School’s Day offering and encourage South Australian schools to register their participation.”

“School’s Day is more than just a day at the track, it’s a vibrant celebration of racing that brings students face-to-face with the thrill of the motorsport, while offering a rich educational experience that explores the sport’s legacy in South Australia and its impact nationwide.”

“We’re also stoked to officially reveal our mascots, Petey and Wheeliam, who will bring a visual presence, fun and humour to the event.”

Driver Kai Allen echoed Warren’s sentiments: “It’s a great way for these kids to experience motorsport, speaking to a few of them today, there’s definitely excitement in the air. It was fun to see their faces light up at the reveal of the new mascots.”

Supported by the National Motor Museum and History Trust of SA, teachers can collect classroom resources developed by the Trust’s Education Team.
