A major new initiative has today been announced for the opening race of this year’s bp Adelaide Grand Final.

Thanks to a partnership between Mega Rewards and the South Australian Motor Sport Board (SAMSB), a $50,000 prize will be awarded to the winning driver of the Friday 100km Supercars race.

The initiative means the first Friday race in the history of the bp Adelaide Grand Final will have a major prize on the line for drivers and fans, with racing across the shorter distance expected to be fierce.

With Repco Supercars Championship glory also up for grabs between the four finalists as part of the new format, the stakes could not be higher!

Mega Rewards, who have partnered with SAMSB to provide the $50,000 prize, said they were thrilled to support the winner-takes-all Friday race.

“Just like we reward our members, Mega Rewards is proud to back this exciting new initiative – celebrating the driver who comes out firing from the very first green light,” a spokesperson said.

“At Mega Rewards, we believe exceptional performance deserves exceptional recognition – and this prize ensures Friday’s race delivers the kind of drama, intensity and reward our members know all too well.”

Mark Warren, CEO of the South Australian Motor Sport Board, said the initiative forms part of the Board’s commitment to creating the best motorsport event in the country.

“This initiative from Mega Rewards means Friday’s race could deliver any possible outcome,” Warren said.

“By putting real money on the line, we’re giving drivers a major incentive to come out swinging from the very first race – and giving fans another reason to be in the stands from day one.

“Our thanks go to Mega Rewards for supporting this bold new initiative for the bp Adelaide Grand Final.”

Supercars CEO James Warburton welcomed the announcement and the focus on growing the Friday program.

“This is a great addition to the Friday of our epic Grand Final for the Championship. In an already high stakes weekend, this will add extra incentive for Friday’s race.

“We have great partners with the South Australian Government and the South Australian Motor Sport Board and thank them and their partners for this great initiative.”
